Why Violet Blue is my hero!

Just in case I haven’t said it recently enough, Violet Blue is my hero. She’s getting ready to head off to the Podcast and Portable Media Expo which she accurately describes as “like The Learning Annex Donald Trump Real Estate Wealth Expo, but for podcasting.” You can read all about it here: the confirmation number of the beast

The icing on the cake was her schedule for the expo:

  • show up, huff Lemon Pledge from a thigh-high stocking, begin recording audio
  • heckle Leo Laporte
  • slap a Laughing Squid sticker on his back when he turns around in an angry huff
  • meander aimlessly telling anyone who will listen that I have “7 Proven Strategies to Monetize Your Podcast in 30 Days or Less” in my pants
  • find beercasters
  • use knowledge gleaned from the ‘godcasters’ PME forum and find their meetup; begin the praise jesus barf bonanza from fuel attained in beercasters’ private coolers, videoblog entire scene from start to finish while explaining I bring the immortal gift of vomit to godcasting
  • wander back to expo while vicodin kicks in; display buttocks to Microsoft/AMD Blogger Lounge and passing conference attendees while bragging about being a judge for the Vloggies
  • find beers stashed earlier in the day
  • heckle Andrew Michael Baron about quality of porn on Rocketboom; demand to hump his wooden leg
  • wonder loudly where all the hot babes are
  • ask if I can take a nap at the Libsyn booth; when denied, realize that by expo standards I am a “hobbyist”, weep openly
  • commence after party

Once again, I really do want to bear Violet Blue’s children.

Google hires underhanded lobbyists.

I have to say that I’m not all that surprised by this, seems that Google has hired the Washington DC lobbyist firm DCI to handle its lobbying. DCI is well known for such wonderful tactics as lying, astroturfing and push-polling to get what their clients want.

Why doesn’t this surprise me? For the same reason that Apple is making great strides in forcing DRM down the throats of anyone who buys hardware from them, they (both Apple and Google) are up-and-coming members of corporate america. Call me cynical if you like but it has always seemed to me that once any business gets large enough the corporate mentality takes it over. And it’s all down hill from there.

The following are some good articles:

Places I’ve been.

Just for giggles, some maps.

First the states that I have visited. I did limit this list to places that I have actually slept.

create your own visited states map.

My world travels are much less broad.

Uh oh! No good deed goes unpunished.

I’ve always loved the old Bugs Bunny cartoons. Chuck Jones has always had a very special place in my heart. One of my favorite memories about my brother and I has to do with a Warner Bros. cartoon, but that’s another story altogether.

So, I wanted to see how this whole YouTube thing was supposed to work and I thought to myself “Hey, why don’t I upload something from the Internet Archive, all that stuff is in the public domain so it shouldn’t be a problem. Right?” I looked around for something that looked cool that someone hadn’t already added to YouTube and I came up with this: What’s Opera Doc. One of the better known Bugs Bunny cartoons and an excellent one.

So I pulled down a copy from the Internet Archive and then spent the next two hours loading it up to YouTube. It’s only 34 Megs big so I was quite suprised and saddened by how long the upload took (at least 30 min.) and then it was at least another 90 min. before I could actually view the video on YouTube. But it was finally up there so over all, only a slightly bad taste left in my mouth after the experience. At least until today. Today I got this:

So, clearly it wasn’t yet in the public domain, that or Warner Bros. figures to just keep nailing folks and hoping that no one notices. Either way, it only took a week. And all I wanted to do was see how things work (not well) and share a little joy (shot down). Well, such is life.

Oh, the best part of the mail was the link at the bottom of the gmail window that asked if I wanted to invite DMCA to Gmail. So, what do folks think? Should I invite DMCA to Gmail?
