Over at the O’Reilly Network (no not the clown from Fox (non-)News, the publisher) there’s a great article about the Creative Commons UK versions.
Some Rights Reserved by Becky Hogge — With unprecedented institutional backing and a grassroots creative scene willing to take up the challenge, the future looks bright for Creative Commons in the U.K. Becky Hogge reports on the state of the Creative Commons project across the pond.
The good news is that, unlike here in the U.S., many of the big content providers are actively supporting Creative Commons (CC) licensing for their works. Organizations like the BBC, the Museums Libraries and Archives Council, The National Health Service, and others are all at least looking at and talking about CC. This may not seem like much but it’s really incredible when you think about it. These folks have huge libraries of content that could suddenly be made available to creative folks.
The bad news is that the UK corporations are spreading the same crap that the US corporations do here about CC and the harm it might do to artists. With the shit these guys talk it’s a wonder they aren’t buried in roses.
I tip my hat to all of the hard working folks on the far side of the puddle for making CC happen over there. Keep up the great work kids!
